Biography

Casa Dahlia is a mighty patch of sustainably grown seasonal flower varieties located in the heart of Chicago’s Garfield Park. Casa Dahlia is rooted in Carol Arteaga’s early memories and life experience. She was born into a family of farmers who appreciate the beauty and utility of flowering plants. Dahlias boast thousands of varieties and in some cases have historically been used as a source of food. Although Casa Dahlia is more its namesake, Dahlias are a symbol of resilience and practicality.

When she was a young child, Carol’s mother took her to a field in Mexico, where she saw thousands of wild cosmos, and that spectacular sight sticks with her to this day. Now, in a field of her own flowers, she’s constructed Casa Dahlia to be a perfect union of design and science. Unsurprisingly, when Carol observes the morning bloom while quietly tending to a rich array of seasonal flowers in her garden, she experiences a familiar feeling – this is home. Flowers remind us that nature is marvelous, diverse, and spectacular.

By nurturing flowers daily in this garden patch, Carol has discovered something even more wonderful than the flowers themselves – the joy that people feel when they see her beautiful flowers. Everyone who walks by her garden stops for a moment to check out the ever-evolving, show-stopping bounty of color and variety.
